Alpha Phi
Alpha Phi was founded at Syracuse University in 1872 by ten of the first nineteen women to be admitted to the university. Since then, Alpha Phi members have carried on their legacy of leadership and achievement at Alpha Phi chapters across the country.
Yale Alpha Phi is a community of women supporting one another through their time at Yale and beyond. While coming from diverse backgrounds, our sisters have created a community on Yale’s campus of unity, support, and empowerment. Each member of Alpha Phi makes an invaluable contribution to this community from her first day as a new member to her last day of Alpha Phi Senior Week. From our new member retreats, to crushes and formals, to our partnership with the Life Haven Shelter, to networking events, Alpha Phi sisters have endless opportunities to grow together and support one another.
Although participating in over one hundred student organizations, our members find time to come together in support of our philanthropy – the Alpha Phi Foundation for Women’s Heart Health. In the fall of each year, we host a Red Dress Brunch to raise funds and awareness for this foundation and New Haven organizations supporting women’s causes.
Our house is located at 33 Edgewood Avenue, where eight of our members live. Throughout the year, we hold sisterhood events, big/little activities, and events open to the Yale community in our house.
In Yale Alpha Phi, you will find not only a sisterhood, but also a home away from home. We can’t wait to share our chapter with all of you during rush this year!
