Yale has so much to offer (sometimes too much, as anyone who has been to the extracurricular bazaar knows).
With all of the clubs, publications, and intramural sports teams, why join a sorority?

WHY GO GREEK?

Scholarship: Sorority members at Yale strive for academic excellence. Many sororities organize study breaks and study groups to pursue academic achievement with the support of their sisters. Many sororities' national headquarters also offer scholarships, for which many Yale sisters apply.
  • The college retention rate for sorority members is 3 times higher than for non-affiliated students.
  • The first female astronaut and the first female senator had gone Greek.

Leadership:  Sororities offer more leadership opportunities for their members than many other organizations. Each sorority is managed and led by its elected executive board and committees, all comprised of members from the undergraduate student body. In addition, the Panhellenic Council is an additional leadership opportunity that allows for collaboration between independent sororities and for the uniting of female Greek life on campus. The National Headquarters of most sorority chapters also sponsor annual leadership conferences that are held regionally and nationally for their membership.
  • Over 85% of the student leaders on some 730 campuses are members of a Greek-letter organization.
  • 85% of Fortune 500 executives were part of Greek life.

Community Service: Every sorority is nationally associated with a particular philanthropic organization. Each chapter at Yale holds events throughout the year to raise money for that organization. as well as local charities. To find out more about each sorority and their philanthropy, click here.
  • The Greek system is the largest network of volunteers in the US, with members donating over 10 million hours of volunteer service each year.
  • Over $7,000,000 is raised every year by Greeks nationally, and over 850,000 hours are volunteered by Greeks annually.

Sisterhood: Sorority membership is a life-long commitment. Greek membership is a great way to help make a large campus seem smaller, offering the opportunity to build a network of friendships across class year or residential college divides, friendships that are much stronger than those from routine classroom experiences or other co-curricular involvement. From parties and movie nights to late night study breaks, times spent with your sisters will be some of your most fun and memorable college experiences.  Your sisters will become some of your closest friends throughout college and beyond. You also get the benefits of the strong alumni networks that sorority membership builds.
  • Nine million college students are members of a Greek organization, on over 800 campuses across the country.
  • According to last year's Gallup-Purdue Index, members of Greek life are more likely than all other college graduates to be thriving physically, socially, and financially.
